Youth safety in the spotlight – Nancy Verra at MAD Forum 2026: “Allwyn adopts a comprehensive framework of protection mechanisms”

A meaningful dialogue on the challenges and opportunities faced by young people in today’s rapidly evolving digital environment took place at MAD Forum 2026, held last week at Technopolis, with the participation of representatives from leading companies, experts and institutions.

Among other topics, the Forum served as a platform for the exchange of views on the protection of minors and the role of responsible entrepreneurship. In this context, the second thematic panel, titled “Youth and Restrictions: Responsible Entrepreneurship”, focused on young people’s relationship with products and services intended exclusively for adults. The discussion highlighted the need for businesses to adopt effective child-protection practices, modern control mechanisms and targeted awareness initiatives.2_1110.jpg

Dr. Nancy Verra, Chief Legal, Regulatory & Compliance Officer of Allwyn Hellas, addressed the risks arising from the absence of a strict regulatory framework in sectors such as gambling, stressing that the lack of effective supervision can have negative social consequences. “Games of chance can have harmful effects on society when there is no strict regulation and oversight by the competent regulator, as well as when operators fail to comply with the framework and do not implement self-regulatory measures,” she emphasized.

At the same time, Dr. Verra pointed out that Responsible Gaming, and especially the protection of minors, are top priorities for Allwyn, which implements a comprehensive and multi-level strategy in this field. “Responsible Gaming is a strategic pillar of the company. We adopt a broad range of tools and mechanisms to ensure that players participate in a healthy, balanced and responsible way. You may have seen our latest campaign, which is addressed specifically to Gen Z, conveying a very important message: limits are not a restriction, but a source of strength,” she noted.4_801.jpg

With particular regard to the protection of minors and youth safety, Allwyn is set to implement Project Parenting, a new, targeted awareness and information initiative aimed at parents. As Dr. Verra explained, the company also carries out visits to universities to raise awareness among educators and young people, as well as targeted information actions at major cultural events that attract the interest of the younger generation.

Finally, special reference was made to illegal gambling, which constitutes a significant risk for both society and the State. According to Dr. Verra, illegal gambling has serious social implications, as it does not comply with any Responsible Gaming rules, age restrictions, or limits on time spent and financial losses. As a result, there is a substantial risk of addiction—particularly for young people and more vulnerable population groups. At the same time, it was stressed that illegal gambling leads to an annual loss of approximately €400 million in state revenues.
